Stop factory farming today

Factory farming is broken: but with your help, we can make farming kinder to animals, our health and the planet

Recap: Why we need to end factory farming

Animals: Every day, millions of animals suffer in dirty, cramped conditions, unable to exhibit their natural behaviors.

Planet: Animal agriculture is a leading cause of greenhouse gas emissions, deforestation, and pollution.

Public health: Factory farms increase the risk of pandemics and contribute to the spread of antibiotic-resistant diseases.

How to help end factory farming

We explain how you can make the biggest difference to end cruelty on farms and put a stop to factory farming.

Factory farming is on its way out. A system that causes so much destruction and waste can't possibly compete with new technologies that allow us to produce food in a way that's far kinder to the planet and animals.

It's very likely that one day, no animals will suffer on factory farms. We’ll produce enough healthy food to feed ourselves without putting the planet or our health at risk.

But we can help accelerate that change, reducing animal suffering and allowing our planet to recover faster.

1) One thing you can do is eat less meat.

In the US, 99% of meat comes from factory farms. By eating more plant-based foods and fewer animal products, you can help reduce the demand for factory farming.

2) But there’s something else that can help even more than going vegan.

Perhaps the most impactful thing you can do is to support highly effective charities with a proven track record of tackling factory farming and improving the lives of farmed animals. Unlike diet change, which can only help as many animals as your diet affects, there’s no limit to how many animals an individual can help through their donations.

The underrated power of donations

With the help of people like you, FarmKind’s recommended charities have delivered wins for factory-farmed animals, for example:

  • The Humane League has helped cut the proportion of laying hens confined in cages in the US from 40% to almost 5% over the past decade, convincing 300+ US companies to phase out buying eggs from caged hens

  • Sinergia Animal have persuaded companies to serve around 370k extra plant-based meals per year, at a cost-effectiveness of as little as 7c per meal and released undercover investigations seen over 8 million times

  • Dansk Vegetarisk persuaded the government to establish a fund that will allocate €168 million to plant-based initiatives

  • And many more, helping cows, pigs, chickens, fish and even shrimp!

Who are we? FarmKind is a fully independent donation guide. This ensures that 100% of your donation goes to your chosen charities and that our recommendations stay free from bias.

Peter Singer, Author and Ethics Professor

“If you want to reduce the suffering of animals, then supporting organizations working to improve the lives of factory-farmed animals is the most effective way to do it. That's why I support FarmKind’s aim, to encourage more people to donate to highly effective charities addressing this issue. For animals, for people, and for the planet, ending factory farming is essential.”

FarmKind can help you make a bigger difference

Fact: Some charities help hundreds, if not thousands of animals for the same amount of money that some of the best-known animal charities need to help just one¹

There are a lot of animal charities out there. It can be really difficult to figure out which ones are making a difference at all, let alone which one will make the biggest difference possible with your donation.

How can you compare charities that do completely different things? How do you separate the real facts from misleading marketing? Now, you don't have to.

We’ve done the homework for you, so that you can donate to the best charities working to fight factory farming without the hassle of spending hours doing research.

How big could your impact be?

Our impact calculator shows you how many animals you could help by donating through FarmKind. Try it out!

    1. It is hard to be precise here. The Battersea Dogs and Cats Home — one of the UK's oldest and best known animal shelters — says it costs them £46,000 per day to look after their animals and looks after around 7,000 new cats and dogs per year. That’s ~$21.5 million USD per year, which is just over $3,000 USD per animal. Meanwhile, our recommended charities can spare a chicken from a life of confinement in a battery cage for just $0.85.
